Xiaomi’s new “Mi Air Charge” can charge devices from a distance.

When it comes to charging technology, wired charging has already reached bigger heights with faster charger speeds of up to 12W fast charging technology which is currently being worked on. However, when it comes to wireless charging, companies have been trying to develop it even further to get the same amount of charging speeds as with wired technology. Now Xiaomi has announced its “Mi Air Charge” tech, which can charge the phone from a distance and is very unique in itself. The tech seems to be coming right out of the future and can charge multiple devices at once from a distance with up to 5W charging support.

The company claims that the charging process will not be interrupted by any kind of obstacles like furniture or objects. The company has explained the tech behind it and confirms that it has a phase control array composed of 144 antennas that transmit millimeter-wide waves directly to the phone through beamforming from the large charging base. The base seems to be the size of a small table that you can keep in the living room and will easily blend in. As per the official statement from Xiaomi, “The core technology of Xiaomi’s remote charging lies in space positioning and energy transmission. Xiaomi’s self-developed isolated charging pile has five phase interference antennas built-in, which can accurately detect the location of the smartphone. A phase control array composed of 144 antennas transmits millimeter-wide waves directly to the phone through beamforming.

Also, “On the smartphone side, Xiaomi has also developed a miniaturized antenna array with a built-in “beacon antenna” and “receiving antenna array.” Beacon antenna broadcasts position information with low power consumption. The receiving antenna array composed of 14 antennas converts the millimeter-wave signal emitted by the charging pile into electric energy through the rectifier circuit, to turn the sci-fi charging experience into reality.

Apple could bring in-display fingerprint sensor and Face ID together this year in iPhone

When it comes to iPhones, one of the major features that users have been expecting the company to add over the time was in-display fingerprint scanner, which is already available in their rival Android smartphones. Although the feature has still not been added, it seems that Apple might be adding it to their smartphones in the future. Apple was granted a patent in September last year which covers the in-screen Touch ID.

Some of the new reports suggest that this year, the new iPhone series can bring under-display Touch ID and Face ID together. So it can be expected that this year, the iPhone 13 smartphone could come with both these biometric authentication features. The report has been confirmed by both Bloomberg and WSJ, giving a lot of base to these rumors. However, the patent does not mean that the company will be using the feature for sure this year as they already have patents on their name since 2016 which has still not been used in their devices.

The same information was also tweeted by tipster L0vetodream in October last year about bringing in in-display fingerprint and Face ID in the new series of iPhone. Apart from these, the new iPhones series will also see a change in the use of display, where the mini LED technology could be used, similar to what they have been planning for the new iPad that will be launched this year. So we can expect a lot more leaks to appear in the coming months which would reveal more information about the new Apple devices.

Also, for the Note 10 smartphone, we will only see a 6GB variant with both 64GB storage and 128GB storage. Telegram adding a new feature to migrate messages from WhatsApp

After the backlash WhatsApp has been getting due to the changes of privacy policies, the advantage has certainly gone to rival apps like Signal and Telegram. When it comes to the alternatives, one of the most popular has been Telegram and the company knows it. It is why they are now developing a new kind of feature in the app which would allow the users to import their data from WhatsApp to their platform. The new feature has already been released today on the iOS App Store with version 7.4 of the app.

However, moments later another update was released which removed the mention of the new feature, which states that the development is still under development. However, it was mentioned that with update 7.4, users will be able to import chats from WhatsApp, Line, KakaoTalk, and other unspecified apps. The migration does not take much time and effort from one app to another as one simply has to select the “Export Chat” option which will generate a ZIP file from WhatsApp with the entire conversation that can be exported to Telegram through the iOS Share Sheet.

Once done, Telegram will ask which contact or group you want to associate that chat to, and then the messages will be synchronized there for both you and the other person. It seems to be a matter of time before the feature is officially announced by the company and it seems to be a great feature for people who are afraid that the migration would lead to losing their WhatsApp messages.

Apple doubled its business in the Indian market last year.

After the launch of the official Apple website in India last year where Apple would directly sell their products in India, the company had high expectations of Apple’s business in the country. Apple has recently released the numbers and has shown a 60 percent growth, year-on-year in its India business in 2020. However, the growth in the last quarter of 2020 went up to 100 percent on the same basis. Apple has almost doubled their business in the last year in India and seems to be going in the right direction.

As per CEO, Tim Cook, “If you take India for example, we doubled our business last quarter compared to a year-ago quarter.” Although the business in India is increasing, as per him, the business in the country is still very low when compared to the size and opportunity the market in India has. He has also stated that after the online store, the company is also in the process of setting up their own retail stores in the country, which would be a great initiative. It is the first time that the company has doubled the market share in India and recorded such a big growth.

Tim Cook has already confirmed that they are looking to expand its India operations and said that, “There are several markets, as I alluded to before. India is one of those, where our share is quite low. It did improve from the year-ago quarter. Our business roughly doubled over that period of time. And so we feel very good about the trajectory.

Millions of users in the UK have left WhatsApp for alternative apps like Telegram and Signal

After the changes in the privacy policy by Facebook-owned WhatsApp, the company has been criticized a lot and the same has reflected in the number of users worldwide. As per the latest reports, millions of users have already stopped using WhatsApp in the UK and have started using either Telegram or Signal. WhatsApp has been trying to convey the message to global users that the new changes are not going to compromise security and privacy and the changes have only been implemented to make the services better.

However, it does not seem to affect the users from changing their choice of messaging app, especially when Whatsapp is not giving them any choice to not accept the changes and continue using the app. The UK Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said that the changes in the privacy policy are the only reason millions of users in the UK have stopped using WhatsApp and the number is going to increase even further. As per the official statement, “Users expect companies to maintain their trust and not to suddenly change the contract that they have with the users.”

The backlash against Facebook’s unwelcome privacy policy was already something people were aware of, but the changes in WhatsApp which do not give any other option to the users unless they accept the changes, have lead to the uproar and it seems that the company is going to have a lot of problems in the future. The same issue has also been taken into consideration by many governments and the latest example of the same is the Indian government who has been handling the case through a special committee.

OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei has started a new company called “Nothing”

After the launch of the OnePlus Nord series from the company, Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus decided to leave the company last year. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra to use low power OLED displays

After the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S21 series, it was well known that the company has spent a lot of time in the research and development of the Ultra variant. Earlier this week, Samsung also announced a new low powered OLED display for the Ultra variant which will be powering up the Galaxy S21 Ultra and would lead to 16 percent less power consumption. The details that have been related by CNET, says that the new OLED screen has a lower power draw by speeding up electron flows in the screen’s organic layer.

As per the statement from Jeeho Baek, head of the Mobile Display Sales, Marketing & Product Planning Office of Samsung, “ The constant progression of display technologies has increased demand for lower power consumption to enable features such as larger screens, faster display driving, and greater resolution.” As per the details provided by them about the new OLED displays, acceleration of the flow of electrons through the display’s layers would increase the brightness of the light produced whilst consuming less power, which raises battery life, as per official Samsung notes.

The company has been researching this for a very long time and has agreed to the point that their previous handsets were drawing a lot of power. However, using this new display technology would make sure that the battery lasts a lot longer and the screen does not extract as much power as before. Apart from the display, the company has also made a lot of changes in terms of software to manage the efficient use of display energy.

Delhi High Court to hear a plea against WhatsApp today

After WhatsApp introduced new privacy settings for the Indian users a lot of problems have emerged for the company. Also, the privacy settings that mandates the Indian users to agree to the change or else stop using the app, is not something they have implemented in countries like Europe. It is why the government had to intervene and a special committee was created to talk about these issues with WhatsApp. Now, Delhi High Court will be hearing a plea today, which challenges the new privacy policy of WhatsApp and violates the privacy of individuals.

As per the plea, WhatsApp has put a “Damocles sword on its users and updated policy virtually scrutinizes the personal profile of a user by 360 degrees.” The plea was filed by the advocate Chaitanya Rohilla and he mentions that the changes by WhatsApp also jeopardizes the national security of the country by sharing, transmitting, and storing the user’s data in another country. As per the details in the plea, “WhatsApp has made a mockery out of our fundamental right to privacy while discharging a public function in India, besides jeopardizing the national security of the country by sharing, transmitting and storing the user’s data in some other country.

There remains a possibility that that foreign country might be a hostile country to India.” Although WhatsApp has now extended the February 8 deadline to May, the issue still seems to persist for the giant. Since the changes, WhatsApp has lost a large number of its users in the Indian market and people have been selecting alternatives like Telegram and Signal.

Google to bring new sharing feature on Android smartphones

When it comes to sharing the data between two different smartphones, there are a lot of ways through which it can be done. Earlier, it was Bluetooth which was primarily used by smartphone companies to help users transfer data from one phone to another. However, the ways people share data with each other now have changed completely and Google understands it. It is why the company is working on the launch of a new feature for Android users that would allow them to easily share their WiFi network password with others and transfer the data.

The feature has been named Google Share and can be identified as a similar feature to Apple’s AirDrop. The new feature from Google will allow Android users to share photos, videos, Google Play Store apps, and Google Map locations with other nearby Android users. The WiFi password sharing through QR code is now available for Android 10 operating system users. The company will be launching the feature in the second half of the year and can be named Share WiFi.

The rumors suggest that the users will have to long-press the WiFi button in the Android 12 operating system to use this feature. Google will also be introducing “App Pairs” in the Android Operating system version 12 which will allow users to add the same type of application on different devices. With this new feature, Google is trying to improve sharing between Android devices and also increase the speed of data transfer through WiFi while doing so.

LG might soon exit from the smartphone industry

When it comes to the smartphone market, Lg has not been able to make great progress as it hoped for. Although the company has been trying to bring some really great looking smartphones like the recent T-Wing in the market, they have not been able to get the kind of response from the customers as they wanted. It was expected that due to the low-performance smartphone business from LG, we could see the end of it sooner or later. Now it seems that LG has finally decided to close their smartphone wing.

The rumors that have been around recently hinting that the company has been preparing a statement where it would announce its exit from the smartphone market. However, these rumors were denied by the company stating them as false, but the recent changes in the company state otherwise.

New Camera patent emerges for Xiaomi Mi Mix 4

Xiaomi has been working on the new Mi Mix 4 for a long time now and everyone is expecting Xiaomi to bring some really new and great feature phones at the time of launch. Among those unique features, one has been recently identified in the form of a patent. The company has already confirmed that they might be launching the new Mi Mix 4 this year in the global market and it can be expected that it would come up with cutting-edge tech. Details about a lot of new patents have already come up in the last few months from the company which was mainly focused on camera setups and frequently pop-up solutions.

It is expected that all those patents could have been for Mi Mix 4. The design patent does not involve a pop-up camera, but a “reflecting member” or simply a mirror that pops up on user command. The sensors stay safely encased inside of the smartphone’s shell while the rotatable mirror does all the popping up and image-positioning work. The patent when perfected will remove the requirement of a front and rear-facing cameras in the smartphone and could help in getting a better camera-free wraparound display for the Mi Mix 4.

The tech that Xiaomi has been creating can bring around revolutionary changes to the camera tech that is used in the industry right now. However, unless it has been used in the final version, it is hard to say how the camera performance will be and how it will be different from previous camera setups.

Facebook and Twitter representatives called over to meet the parliamentary committee

Ever since Facebook-owned WhatsApp has made it a mandate for Indian users to accept the new privacy settings, there has been a lot of fuss about why there is a change in the policy terms for Indian users and global users on WhatsApp. Due to the same fact and considering the other aspect of Indian user’s data, a parliamentary committee on Thursday, January 21, has summoned the officials of social media giants Facebook and Twitter. The issue they have been called up for is related to safeguarding citizens’ rights and preventing misuse of social/online news media platforms.

The 31-member panel, headed by senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor will convene the meeting at 4 pm, on Thursday, 21 January. The summons has been sent amidst the outrage over digital rights after WhatsApp announced the new policy changes, giving the data access right to Facebook. WhatsApp has already extended the deadline to May 15 after millions of users migrated to alternates like Telegram and Singal.

As per the official statement in the agenda of the meeting, “Evidence of representatives of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and to hear the views of the representatives of Facebook and Twitter on the subject ‘Safeguarding citizens’ rights and prevention of misuse of social/online news media platforms including special emphasis on women security in the digital space.” Previous to this, Facebook and Twitter representatives were also called in October 2020 regarding data protection and privacy issues. It seems like there will be a certain change in the privacy policies of WhatsApp after government intervention.

New changes in Firefox on Android makes installing add-ons easy

When it comes to using browsers on the smartphone, Google Chrome has been a popular choice for most of the users due to the ease and user interface. However, Mozilla Firefox has also been able to provide a great user experience for people who do not want to use Chrome. Mozilla is now trying to simplify its process even further to enhance the user experience on the smartphone. The company has simplified the process of finding and installing add-ons on the Android version of the Firefox browser.

With the new version of Firefox, named Firefox 85, users will be able to install extensions straight from the addons.mozilla.org page. In the previous process, users had to go to Add-ons Manager to install the extensions they want, which was also a bit confusing for the users. With the launch of Firefox 85 on January 25, the company is expecting to simplify a lot of things in the browser. It will be the same date when the install buttons will go live on the add-ons website.

Mozilla has not expanded the list of addons by much and it still stays limited for the users. However, the company has emphasized that the new changes will be ensuring a good first experience and it has initially only had 10 curated extensions on the list. The company has confirmed that it will continue to work on the optimization process in the coming months for Firefox on Android and will introduce more experimental features as well.

OneDrive increases the file size limit to 250GB

Online cloud storage services have become extremely popular and widely used after the users started working from remote locations due to the pandemic. It is one of the major reasons why most of the popular tech companies have made a lot of changes to the cloud storage offerings to the users. One such change has recently been implemented by Microsoft as well where they have increased the OneDrive file size limit to 250GB.

As per their official statement, “Our latest improvement will help increase the upload file size limit for Microsoft 365 from 100 GB to 250 GB — which includes uploads of files into SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive.” Previously the file size limit on the OneDrive was limited to 100GB for all Microsoft 365 customers but now the support for 250GB file size will reflect in SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive. The update is expected to be rolled out by the end of January and will be available to all users across the globe by the end of quarter 1.

The increase in the file size would be a great feature for people who have been trying to share videos in 4 o 8K resolution as they have a big file size. The company has also confirmed that they have managed to raise the upload limit by splitting each file into chunks, with each piece encrypted with a unique key. In the statement released by them, “All your files are backed up in Azure Storage, ensuring high availability and performance. You can easily upload and download your large files when you need them, where you need them

First leaked images appear for Xiaomi foldable phone

Xiaomi has been working on the foldable phone concept for a long time now and it has not been a secret as well. However, it is the first time that the images of the foldable phone from Xiaomi have leaked online and it looks really impressive. The leaks of the phone might not be the final version and can still be under development, but it seems that the company is very close to creating the final version of the production-friendly phone.

Companies like Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola have already launched their foldable phones in the market and it was just a matter of time before Xiaomi would have done the same as well. The phone in the image looks very similar to the Galaxy Fold and was spotted to be running the MIUI 12. The phone was spotted wrapped in a pre-production design concealing case. Looking at the phone in the image, it seems like the phone has almost reached the end of the development process and the company could announce the phone in the coming months.

The details from the image only reveal that the phone is currently running on MIUI 12 and has 256 GB of onboard storage. The front screen does not seem to have a selfie camera and the power and volume keys for the same are visible on the right side. We can expect more leaks and information about the phone in the coming days if the company is looking to launch the phone in the coming months.

The Indian government is closely monitoring the new changes in WhatsApp privacy policies

After the controversial changes in the privacy policy by WhatsApp, many people have not stopped using the App and have switched to its most popular alternative app called Signal. Infact, due to this, Signal has received a large number of users in the last 72 hours. Apart from this, the latest information also reveals that the stringent action of accepting the new privacy policies or removing the app is only meant for users in Indian and not for the users in European countries. It further hyped the dissatisfaction that the users had after being forced to accept the privacy policies.

Now, as per the latest news, the Indian government has started examining the controversy surrounding WhatsApp’s new update. The issue has already been reported to the highest level of the IT ministry and the details are being collected to check the details. The sources confirmed that the government is concerned about the ‘regulatory vacuum’ in terms of data protection in India as there is no data protection law at present. A bill for a personal data protection law in the Parliament but it is likely to take some time before becoming a law.

As per the statement from the official sources, “Also, the privacy update sought by WhatsApp in user agreement in European Union is seen as lenient while in India it is wide-ranging and may have terms that may potentially harm user privacy.” It has also been confirmed that the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT)  has asked the ministry to restrict WhatsApp from implementing the new privacy policy. It would be really interesting to see how the ministry reacts and understand the changes done by WhatsApp.

The company has not confirmed whether the console will be limited to certain loyal customers or anyone with a reward account, however, it would be a good idea for people to sign up for Sony Rewards account just in case they have not till now. It shows that the company has already been prepping up to restock the PS5 console in large numbers at various geographical locations and the debates on the same have already started on Twitter as well.

Currently, the company has made no statements about the re-stocking issue of the PS5 console in the offline store However, it would be a much better bet for the consumers to try checking out the restock of the PS5 on the official Sony website through the rewards account, as it has more probability of them getting to buy one.
